Test your camera and microphone

Press start and allow access when your browser asks.

Nothing is recorded or uploaded.

How to use the test

The whole check takes about 20 seconds:

  1. Press the test button and allow camera and microphone access when your browser asks
  2. Check the preview: is your face well lit and centered?
  3. Say a few words and watch the microphone meter move
  4. If both work, start your video chat

If the camera shows nothing

A black or frozen preview usually means the browser doesn't have permission or another app is using the camera. Close video apps like Zoom or Teams, check the permission icon next to the address bar and try again. Full steps for every system are in camera not working.

If the microphone meter doesn't move

Check that the right microphone is selected, that your headset isn't muted and that the browser has microphone permission. See microphone not working for system-by-system checks.

Look and sound your best

A working camera is step one; good light and clear sound make the conversation better. Face a window or lamp, keep the camera at eye level and use headphones to avoid echo. Our camera, light and sound guide has simple setups.
